Defcon 13, day 1 and part of 2

Posted in Pre-wordpress on July 31st, 2005 by ballew

There were a few good talks on Friday, though the one of note was Dan’s “Black Ops 2005” talk, where he talked about such things as how to DOS and hide from IDS systems. Another talk of note was the Credit Cards: Everything You have Ever Wanted to Know. DC13 seems to be having some scheduling issues this year, but I’ve been able to catch missing talks on the TV.

The talk of the day so far today was the Introduction to Lock-picking and Physical Security, which has seriously made me consider purchasing a lock picking kit. I’m balking at the $80 price tag that the vendors here want to charged, but this looks like a whole new realm of security for me to toy in.

What’s next? I think I am going to go to the Trust Transience: Post Intrusion SSH Hijacking followed by the lengthy talk titled Be Your Own Telephone Company…With Asterisk.

To Las Vegas, Defcon 13

Tomorrow I am off to attend the Defcon security conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. If anyone at the conference would like to chat over a drink, please feel free to contact me at my email address.

I’m looking forward to this event, as there will be many good speakers this year, and I have a chance of being on “Hacker Jeopardy” this year. One can only hope I can, as there is nothing I like more than attention, even if it may be public humiliation in reality.

Cargo pants and too many pockets

Posted in Pre-wordpress on July 7th, 2005 by ballew

Tonight is yet again laundry night, and every time I have to go about checking every single pocket in my cargo pants. I know that one day I’ll be too tired and spaced out, and I won’t check. That will be the time that I leave my cell phone in there, and my lovely Treo 600 will
get a proper wash and dry.

I only found a quarter in the bottom of the dryer this time, which I attribute to my astute checking of all my cargo pants’ pockets.
